Karen Wilson, a member of Emmaus Lutheran’s quilting group in Ohio, shared one idea. “Our group started receiving requests [for quilts] from everywhere – from cancer centers, pregnancy centers, veterans groups. We make 250 plus quilts every year.”
At an LWML conference, Karen came by the LHF booth and picked up a copy of “Jesus Never Fails.” When she read the booklet, she realized that it would be a perfect pairing to include with the donated quilts. “Then the intent was, let’s take it a step further. Let’s call it our mission. So they now get the quilt and the Word!” she explained.
For St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa, the many translations of “Jesus Never Fails” are a great pairing with their local pregnancy center. St. John gives away diapers, wipes, and baby clothes to young families every month, along with a copy of “Jesus Never Fails.”
“Our town is about 13,000 of more,” described Rev. Bruce Lesemann, the pastor at St. John. “Only a small percent of the population is Caucasian. The rest are Hispanic, Sudanese, Laotian… there are many different people groups. We’re always looking for ways to reach out and help them and show them in a basic way the message of Jesus.
“We pray that through this, they come to know Jesus as their Savior, or are strengthened in their faith,” concluded Rev. Lesemann.
More ways Lutheran congregations are using “Jesus Never Fails” to share the Good News:
- An LWML society puts copies inside bags of supplies given to the homeless in their area;
- A chiropractor has copies available in his waiting room;
- A pastor shares it with immigrant families in his area for an evening devotion;
- A church includes copies in their Little Free Library;
- A group going on a mission trip gave away copies at a VBS they ran;
- A church handed out copies to the public at their Living Nativity event.
